History of Jwala Mukhi Temple
The famous Jwalaji Temple  dedicated to Goddess Jwalamukhi,  is believed to be the home to nine permanent flames named after the goddesses – Mahakali, Annapurna, Chandi, Hinglaj, Bindhya Basni, Maha Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ambika and Anji Devi.  Apart from the history and lore attached to it, what makes the Jwalaji Temple a major tourist attractions are its aartis. If you reach the temple at the precise timings, you can easily catch one of the five aartis that are held at the temple on a daily basis. Each of these aartis takes place at different times of the day, starting with the first one early in the morning during sunrise, and the last one in the night time before the goddess is believed to go to a resting sleep.


Jwalamukhi  Temple & Aarti Timings
Jwalamukhi Temple is open 7 days a week.The visiting hours of this temple is between 5:00 am and 10:00 pm.
The Pooja in temple occurs in gradual stages. Havan takes place everyday and the goddess is offered bhog of Rabri or Peda, misry apart from the regular bhog of seasonal fruits and milk.

Aarti at Jwalamukhi temple is conducted five times a day. The first aarti happens early morning around 5:00 am when the temple gates open.This aarti is called as the “Mangal aarti” and takes place just before dawn.
“Panjupchaar Pujan” is performed during sunrise and it's the second aarti at Jwalamukhi. Bhog of Yellow Rice and curd is offered to Jwalamukhi. The third aarti at Jwalamukhi is known as “Bhog Aarti” where the godess is showered with fruits, milk by the devotees as a gesture of saying thank you to the goddess.The fourth aarti or evening aarti  is performed around 7:00 pm.
The last and the final aarti takes place around 10:00 pm.This is a very special aarti known as “Shayan Aarti of Jwalamukhi” where the bed of Devi is beautifully decorated with flowers and ornaments.The aarti is performed in two phases. First part of it is done in the main temple of Goddess and the second part is done in the 'Sejabhavan'  where Salokas from 'Sondarya Lahri' by Shri Shakracharya are recited.
Itinerary for Five Devi Darshan
Day 1: Palampur -  Jwalamukhi - Baglamukhi- Nagarkot Brajeshwari Devi Kangra - Palampur

Departure from Palampur at 9:00AM or according to your requirement towards Jwalamukhi. The distance of Jwalamukhi from Palampur by road is about 70 Kms. The drive will take around 2 hours. On reaching visit the temple of Maa Jwala Ji. On reaching visit the temple of Maa Jwalamukhi, Gorakh Dibi. You can also visit Tara Devi Temple, located a hill above the Jwala Ji Temple. There are about 100 stairs from the back gate of the Jwalamukhi temple that will  take you to the Tara Devi temple. Other nearby temples that can be visited are Ashtabhuja Temple, Shri Raghunath Ji Temple also known as ‘Teda Mandir’ as it does not stand still due to the earthquake of 1905. It is believed that Lord Rama, Laxman, and Sita Ji stayed here during their exile for 14 years. This temple is situated on a hill above the Jwala Devi shrine and is at a distance of 3 km. You can access the temple from Tara Devi Mandir.

After darshans we will drive for 1 hour to reach Bagla Mukhi temple. The temple is dedicated to one of the Ten Mahavidyas of the Supreme Goddess as per Shaktism. Devotees visit the temple with hopes of getting their wishes fulfilled, cases won, exams passed or life otherwise to be happy and successful. It is said that anything asked for after performing homagni and yajna at the temple is granted. The name Bagalamukhi comes from two separate Sanskrit words, 'Bagala' meaning 'bride' and 'mukhi' meaning 'face'. In essence, it translates to the deity having captivating and hypnotising powers in her face or herself which fights the evil away. It is said that yellow is the favourite colour of the goddess which is why the Baglamukhi Temple has been painted yellow in colour. All the worshippers of the Goddess wear yellow coloured clothes, and yellow sweets are offered to the deity.

Later we will drive towards Kangra. On reaching visit the Nagarkot Brajeshwari Devi Temple and after darshans we will drive back to Palampur.
